Nurturing relationships – from Freelancer to full time: Kate’s journey with Firstcall

“I have known Marcel and his family for over 11 years now”, Kate begins “and whenever I need them Firstcall always seems to be there for me.”

Kate returned to Guernsey in 2012 after a gap of several years – studying at university and then working in the charity sector in London. She soon started a freelance communications business – CommuniKate – to supplement her income and Firstcall was, in fact, her first client and, as Kate says “…the rest is history!”

CommuniKate assisted the businesses within the Firstcall Group in a variety of ways over the intervening years, and when Kate saw that there was a marketing role being advertised at the consultancy she applied straight away!

“As soon as I saw the advert, I knew I wanted the role!” says, Kate “The team at Firstcall are great to work with, and there’s never a dull moment in the office! Recruitment is a pretty fast paced environment. You definitely have to be on your toes!”

Marcel points out that Kate becoming a full-time member of staff was a huge help; “Recruitment isn’t just about putting candidates in to jobs, we try nurture our relationships with our candidates and clients. And having Kate help with the marketing and operations makes it possible for me and Damian to maintain those relationships.”

Marcel continues; “Kate also helps us to keep in touch with our candidates directly and via our on and offline marketing.”

Kate briefly considered applying for the role of recruitment consultant, currently being advertised within the business but, as she points out, although likes the sound of the role she “likes being a little bit creative” too!

She continues: “Unlike many of the agencies on the Island, and, indeed, elsewhere, Firstcall is – as we often say in the office – Small But Big. While we may appear to just be a small, family business, we have close relationships with the majority of the large financial services businesses locally, and regularly place high level candidates within high performing teams.

Firstcall also has big ambitions – 2024 is our 30th year in business so it’s a perfect time to think about the future while thinking about how we got here in the first place!”

So, stay tuned to the blog and our social media – throughout 2024 we will be sharing new developments as well as tried and tested ideas. So, don’t forget if you are thinking about a new role, or just testing the waters, make us your First Call…
