In mid October, we were thrilled to welcome Sofi Noakes to the Firstcall family – warm, funny, a little quirky, and already bringing sunshine into our Guernsey office.
From Lattes to LinkedIn
Before joining us, Sofi ran the Bean Jar café in the Commercial Arcade, serving up hearty local dishes and winning over the island with her hospitality. After years of chatting, cooking, connecting and caffeinating, she’s now switching gears and diving into recruitment.
“I think making people connected and joyful was always in my blood,” she says.
Sofi once dreamed of being on stage, and while she’s swapped the spotlight for a desk, she’s still performing her favourite act — helping people.

How would your friends describe you?

What do you do for fun?
Sofi likes to hang out with her partner and friends, dive into fantasy board games, and binge on her favourite shows — especially musicals.
Why recruitment?
It’s all about people — connection, change, and relationships.

Any challenges?
“Starting in a new field at 36 is intimidating and scary,” she says. “Going from knowing a lot to knowing nothing can be difficult at times.”
But instead of holding her back, she views it as a motivator — tapping into her resilience, her life experience, and her courage to build something meaningful.
How have your past experiences helped you here?
Her hospitality background means she’s comfortable with people, service, and relationship-building. Her time in fiduciary / trust roles gave her insight into financial services, grounding her in both worlds.
Any top tips for jobseekers?
Stay open, stay curious, and don’t talk yourself out of opportunities.

A Fond Farewell to Damian
While Sofi steps into recruitment, Damian is moving in the opposite direction and returning to catering. He left us in early November, with our full support (and maybe a few teary eyes). His energy, humour, and hard work made a real mark, and we can’t wait to see what he cooks up next.
